The vehicle manufacturer of the four Maserati brothers was already attracting attention in racing in the 1920s. They borrowed their trademark - the trident of the sea god Neptune - from a fountain in their hometown of Bologna. In the 1950s, Maserati experienced an era of great success in Formula 1 and with its racing cars.
The Maserati 300S is a product of those successful times. The racing sports car was built in a total of 26 (according to other sources 27) units with three different body shapes (modifications to the front end) between 1955 and 1959. Many components of the successful Formula 1 racing car 250F will be transferred to the 300S. In this way, a street sports car is created with the potential to win, which helps many well-known drivers and racing teams to achieve sporting success.
The Maserati works racing team with its top drivers Stirling Moss, Piero Taruffi, Harry Schell and Jean Behra celebrated a victory in the 1000-kilometer endurance race at the Nürburgring in 1956 with a 300S, which earned the brand a lot of prestige. Further racing successes on long-distance slopes around the world lead Maserati to second place in the sports car world championship at the end of the 1956 season. The CMC model represents the Maserati 300S built in 1956. This year has a special place in the development history of the 300S series because of its sporting success and because of the rare component components.
In this exquisite set, CMC presents the Maserati as an artistically patinated “Dirty Hero®” on a high-quality, solid base plate, covered with an acrylic glass cover in a dust-proof manner. This diorama is completed with two figures depicting a racing driver and his mechanic, and a dismantled engine with all attachments.
The miniature of the “Model Vehicle of the Year” award given by the “Modell Fahrzeug” magazine also honors this gem. The set is only available as a complete set.
