1:48 Mi-24D Hind Cold War Camouflage, Privately Owned and Bulgarian AF Paint Mask Set (48/827-111)

Suggested scale: 1/48

Suggested use: Revell, Trumpeter, Monogram, Zvezda Mi-24D kits

The set includes two sheets of masks (shown in the picture). The masks are made from thin masking tape, which is easy to be peeled off and doesn’t leave any stains. The tape is tested on clear and painted model too. If carefully removed after painting, they can be used over and over again. It is flexible and easily applied over curved surfaces. Semitransparent for easy and accurate placing.

Mi-24D

Hind in this specific camouflage scheme was used by Bulgarian Air Force in the 80s. There were different variants used with various camo schemes, this one being typical for D-variant. In total, 44 Mi-24 were delivered to BuAF in the 80s, some of which were sold later on. Only a couple remain in service today. This exact camouflage pattern can be seen on two privately owned Mi-24Ds purchased from the ex-BuAF inventory. The helicopters were restored and re-painted, using the old appearance and keeping the bort numbers and the insignia typical for the Cold War era. These attack helicopters are currently flying in USA and are used for adversary training in Davis-Monthan AFB in Arizona. Those same Mi-24Ds can be seen at some airshows as well. Originally, there were three purchased, but only two were restored to flying condition. Their registrations are NX118NX and NX120NX.

BuAF Camo

is close in appearance to the standard Soviet 1970s and 1980s clover-like paint scheme. However, there are differences. This set offers the option to build Mi-24D in 48th scale with the camouflage scheme restored and currently flown on the private Mi-24Ds in US. Latter ones look like a brand new helicopters. However, similar camouflage and insignia were applied on the Cold War Bulgarian Mi-24Ds, thus this kit can be used to replicate the worn appearance of those as well. The later years of the BuAF Mi-24s featured heavily worn and sunburned paint, as well as two options for the insignia: Red Star with a roundel inside, or only a roundel. In this set, two bort numbers are included. These are “118” and “120”. Two types of them are included. They represent the two flyable Mi-24Ds used in USA as well as the old BuAF. Insignia included features the Cold War Star of the BuAF as well as the roundels /applied in the 1990s/. For accurate representation, use of reference picture is strongly recommended.
