1:144 Soviet night bomber/reconnaissance plane U-2/Po-2 - snap-fit
Plastic model - Soviet night bomber/reconnaissance Po-2. Historical note: The aircraft was created in 1928 in the Design Bureau of Nikolai Polikarpov. Initially, the aircraft was called U-2, i.е. training -2, since according to the terms of reference, it was developed for training the staff of flight schools. Light, maneuverable and reliable biplane immediately fell in love with young pilots. Excellent control and durability of the design was complemented by cheap production. All future Soviet aces began their flight path on the U-2. The aircraft was produced in various modifications, including sanitary, faithfully served in agriculture. With the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, the U-2 was massively converted into a light night bomber. The simplicity of the design made it possible to carry out this operation in the field. The aircraft received a bomb load of 250 kg, as well as a rear ShKAS machine gun. In 1944, after the death of Nikolai Polikarpov, the aircraft was renamed Po-2. The tactics of light bombers was as follows: the machines approached the front line at low gas, after which they turned off the engines and bombarded objects. The small and nimble Po-2 was invisible to enemy air defenses. And due to the fact that the pilots flew at low altitudes, the night fighters of the enemy were ineffective. The Po-2 was especially famous as a bomber on which women flew. The 46th Guards Tamansky was staffed only by female pilots. 23 pilots were awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union. The worker Po-2 went through the entire war, smashed enemy troops, took out the wounded, supplied partisan detachments and encircled troops by air, and reliably served in intelligence. It deservedly stands on a par with the T-34 tank, the Il-2 attack aircraft and the BM-13 Katyusha Guards jet mortar.
