The F/A-18 Hornet is a single, two-seat, twin-engine combat/attack aircraft that can perform a variety of missions on shore or onboard. The F/A-18 can play a variety of roles: airspace, escort, air defense suppression, reconnaissance, front-line close air support, and night-time attack missions. The F/A-18 Hornet fighter was used to replace the F-4 Phantom II fighter and the A-7 Pirate II light attack aircraft, and began to replace the A-6 Intruder attack aircraft during the 1990s.
