1:35 sWS 60cm Infrared Searchlight Carrier ‘UHU’
The Schwerer Wehrmachtshlepper or SWS was a cheaply made heavy military tractor built by Germany 1943-45. It was manufactured in both armored and soft-skin versions that were primarily load carriers or prime movers. The SWS made by Bussing-NAG and later Tatra in Czechoslovakia, but only 825 were built before the war ended. The AEG company were tasked with developing infra-red night fighting equipment in 1936, with the first examples reaching the troops in 1942. In the last year of the war 50 Panther tanks were fitted with FG1250 IR night fighting sights and rangefinders. These were accompanied by SWS and SdKfz 251 halftracks mounting the 60cm UHU IR Searchlight. The combat teams of Panthers and UHU were mostly sent to the Russian front with the 6th SS Panzer Army. Captured equipment was later copied by the Russians and used on the T-54 battle tank.
