1:72 CATAPHRACTS
The cataphracts were called heavily armored cavalry, in which the armor protected not only the rider but also the horse. The main weapon was a long peak, although in addition to it, swords and, often, bows were used. The cavalry of this kind originated in the steppes of Sarmatia. Possessing the best horses in the world and living in the steppes, Indo-Aryan and Sarmatian peoples made the rider the main striking force on the battlefield. It was the Medes and Scythian cataphracts of the army of Mithridates at the battle of Heronay in 86 AD managed to discard the famous cohorts of Roman legionnaires, putting the invincible Sulla in a difficult position. It was the Parthian cataphractaria under Carra that defeated the Roman legions, many times greater than their number.
