1:72 Mongols - Golden Horde XIII - XIV century - 19 figures
Historical background: At the beginning of the 13th century, a wave that seemed to come out of nowhere swept across Eurasia, destroying powerful states that seemed eternal, and completely changing the political map. This wave were the Mongol-Tatars. They marched from the Pacific Ocean to the Adriatic, terrifying all their opponents. The successes of the Mongol conquests were not based on a miracle or the fabulous strength of warriors, as it seemed at first glance. Victories for the Mongols were brought by clear organization and iron discipline.
The creator of the Mongol state, Genghis Khan, gave the army that brought him success a simple but reliable structure. The lowest level was “ten”. “Dozens” were reduced to “hundreds”, those to “thousands”. And ten “thousands” made up the “tumen” - the highest operational unit of the Mongolian army. The warriors were bound by mutual responsibility. If one warrior fled, all ten of him were executed; if a dozen fled, a hundred were executed. Not only theft and buying stolen goods, but also smaller offenses were punishable by death. Leaving a comrade in captivity was also punishable. The army of the Mongol-Tatars consisted mainly of cavalry. The main force was the heavy cavalry, which skillfully used bows for distance combat and spears for attacks in close formation.
