Details
The Indian Wars (1622 – 1890) are a series of colonial wars between the indigenous people of North America, and in particular the USA, with the colonizers of the lands they inhabit. The Indian Wars encompass not only the Native American wars with the United States, but also the earlier wars with white settlers on the continent.
The wars cover the period from the beginning of American colonization to the Battle of Undid Knee Creek, followed by the closing of the frontier (the American Indian border) in December 1890. As a result of the Indian Wars, the indigenous people of the American continent were forcibly settled in the so-called Indian reservations or subjected to forced assimilation. As a result of the Indian wars between 1775 and 1890, about 45 thousand Indians and 19 thousand whites were killed in about 40 armed conflicts.
